Based at Renfrew Care Home, 72 Cockels Loan, Renfrew.

As a Clerical Assistant working in our team, you will be based on site in a Renfrewshire Council establishment providing clerical support to the team delivering social work care to the elderly or adults with learning disabilities. The centre where you will work will offer either residential care for individuals who are no longer able to live at home, or be a day centre where meals and stimulating activities are provided in order to help support continued living at home.

You will provide a range of clerical duties for the establishment including: word processing and document production; data input into electronic systems; reception and access control duties; cash handling; supporting the ordering and procurement of supplies; dealing with mail, telephone and email enquiries; and, general clerical support.

Cash handling will be a significant element of your job, including the receipting, recording and reconciling of cash received for client’s meals, welfare and activities. During your reception duties you will interact with service users who are adults with physical or learning difficulties, or degenerative conditions such as dementia, so you will need to be empathetic and patient in your approach and able to maintain focus.

You will receive extensive training in your duties and the systems you will use. This will be provided on site by your line manager, who is responsible for managing clerical support to a group of establishments. You will be required to work independently once you are trained and familiar with your role, with ongoing management support provided through regular meetings with your line manager during their visits to your establishment, rather than constant supervision.

It is essential that you have experience of working in a clerical role within an office environment. It is also essential that you have knowledge of common IT systems including databases and Microsoft Office and have effective customer service, organisational and time management skills.

An SVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent) or Customer Service Professional Award is desirable. Experience of working with different agencies and use of purchasing systems is also desirable.
