A new role has arisen for an experienced finance professional to join our UK Finance team in a pivotal role of Finance Business Partner supporting the Sales and Marketing teams.

Reporting into the Commercial Finance Manager this is a high-profile role, in a fast moving complex business, which is starting the next stage in its growth after recently being acquired by Shell.

As a large business we invest in new product development, sales channels and marketing each year to improve our customer acquisition, retention and business profitability. You will support the Commercial Finance Manager to Business Partner the Chief Commercial Officer and the wider Sales and Marketing team in helping them optimise their spend, advising on emerging customer sales opportunities and driving sustainable profitability.

In this role, you're at the heart of producing insight which feeds directly into discussion of sales and marketing strategy and the achievement of our commercial targets at a time when the market is materially changing. The role day to day

  • Production of timely monthly analytical reports with commentary and supporting the delivery of month end accounts

  • Attending and supporting the delivery of monthly performance meetings with business stakeholders

  • Ad hoc analysis to understand underlying drivers/KPI’s behind monthly cost performance

  • Playing a key role in the budgeting and forecasting process in defining and gathering inputs, analysing and building models and presenting the outputs to make decisions

  • Improving processes that add value to stakeholders in the business and within finance.

  • Financially modelling and appraising new initiatives and maintaining existing financial models

  • Work closely with the Sales and Marketing teams to diagnose performance issues as they arise, and use the insight to improve future plans.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the Sales and Marketing teams and other product areas across the organization.

  • Explaining financial performance to the business, proactively identifying improvement opportunities, mitigating risks and leading on the business case for change to deliver them with the business

  • Working with data driven models and analysis. To roll detail up to compelling presentations and stories.

What you'll need to help make the best of the role

  • An excellent commercial thinker with an inquisitive mind that is comfortable both in the detail and at a high level.

  • Highly analytical, commercially minded and proactive.

  • Proven experience in an analytical role involving data collection and independent research together with an ability to communicate and document analysis in a clear and logical way

  • Exceptional interpersonal, influencing and relationship management skills at all levels

  • You will be either working or have worked in finance roles ideally in a Retail, Utility, Telecommunications, eCommerce or FMCG business

  • Enjoy the challenges that come with working in a customer focused, fast paced, dynamic and growing business which demands flexibility and multitasking.

  • Excellent Excel skills (intermediate or higher) with an eye for commercial analysis and understanding.

  • Proven experience of working with Management accounts

  • Experience of working with Financial models and Financial Analysis and proven ability to create narrative around these.

  • Have excellent attention to detail

  • Have strong organisation skills to help meet operational deadlines

  • Have the ability to work on your own initiative as well as a team player

The 'nice to haves'

  • Energy industry (or if not Retail / FMCG) experience

  • Strong knowledge of competitive energy supply landscape and potential threats and opportunities
