We have 5 posts available the salary is £25,314 per annum for 36 hours per week - there are also part time, term time opportunities, which the full time salary would be a pro rata amount, dependent upon the hours worked.

The posts are in both the North West and South West Surrey teams and both teams are based at Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking, Surrey, GU22 7QQ.

About the Role

Working as part of the Education Welfare Team you will support parents to fulfil their legal responsibility of ensuring that their children attend school.   This will involve liaising with schools, parents and other relevant professionals.

You will be responsible for monitoring registers, verifying reasons for absence and identifying cases of non-attendance that require further investigation and may lead to legal proceedings. Working closely with school staff to assess these cases you will use your own drive and initiative to develop strategies to return pupils to school and be prepared to challenge attitudes, which may hinder this objective.

You will need an understanding of the statutory nature of education welfare work and be responsible for negotiating school attendance agreements/plans, holding review meetings, producing reports, preparing court files and referring to other agencies.   You will also advise school on best practice to improve overall attendance.

You should be educated to Degree Level or have significant relevant work experience, along with excellent communication skills, verbal and written, relevant experience and evidence of recent career development. You will need to be comfortable and confident communicating with parents, children and other professionals.

You will be required to travel throughout the county visiting schools and homes, therefore you should enjoy driving, must possess a current full driving licence and will need your own car insured for business purposes.
