Head of Credit - Property Finance
Our client is a UK based property finance business that lend to experienced property developers whose loans are secured upon tangible residential or commercial property assets. They offer fast, flexible finance, created to support ambitious developers throughout the UK with transaction sizes typically between £2m and £20m. In an environment where high street banks and other lenders have been reluctant to extend finance, our client is able to fill the gap.
To create an environment of strong credit risk management and control, ensuring the business lends in accordance with its stated Credit Policy and industry best practice. The Head of Credit will have responsibility and ownership for all aspects of Credit Risk across including underwriting, credit operations and 2nd line credit risk oversight.
The jobholder is responsible for:
The management of credit risk throughout the business, ensuring such risks are identified, measured and reported and that risk parameters reflect the lenders agreed risk frameworks and policies.
Leading and directing the Credit Risk Management function, reviewing how credit risk is managed across the lender and continuing to develop the function to reflect the company’s business activity.
Acting as Chair of the Credit Committee, overseeing the underwriting processes, reviewing and sanctioning high value loan propositions and bad debt provisions and implementing a robust delegated authority framework.
Ensuring credit risk management remains compliant with all relevant laws, regulations and update/expand credit policy to reflect strategic intent and risk appetite.
Ensuring customers are treated fairly and transparently by relevant and robust credit management processes.
Ensure credit management processes contribute to market-leading standards of service.
Guiding and supporting the formulation of credit policy and credit risk direction in line with regulatory requirements.
Managing credit analysis, assessment, sanctioning, monitoring and related procedures to ensure prudent growth in the credit portfolio is achieved and control the underwriting of the loan book in line with credit policy.
Review and recommendation of bad debt provisions, ensuring proper analysis and decision processes are undertaken to achieve timely identification, rehabilitation and mitigation.
Preparing appropriate management information concerning credit risk management activities to the executive.
Supporting the CFO in managing the day-to-day relationship with the relevant regulatory bodies and representing credit with key partners, internal and external.
Broad experience of secured lending within real estate credit risk management including residential development.
Senior risk professional with experience and working knowledge of key risk classes including credit, market and operational risk.
Good knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory framework, industry trends and best practice, able to apply knowledge to direct priorities within the business.
Possess emotional resilience and ability to provide effective and robust challenge.
Possess the credibility and gravitas to work effectively as a member of the senior leadership team and have the ability to influence effectively at senior stakeholder level, ie Board and shareholders.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret and translate regulation as it emerges and evolves and produce high quality presentations suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Be able to adapt style to influence positively and gain buy-in at senior level with the ability to challenge and discuss credit risk issues affecting the business where necessary.
Basic salary of up to £110k PA, annual discretionary bonus, pension, healthcare, life insurance plus other benefits.
