We partner with a variety of cross and multi-functional team members from a diverse array of groups across the company.

You’ll build services and application components, shared across iTunes applications, to support very high levels of transactional integrity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and security. You will also contribute to the architecture, design and implementation of top-level user visible features, with an emphasis on identifying components that can be reused across different scenarios and domains.

Key Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in designing, implementing and supporting highly scalable applications and web services in Java
  • 2 years in leading/managing software engineering teams
  • Strong object oriented design and analysis skills
  • Hands-on coder, with ability to write clear, concise, coherent code
  • Experience scaling, designing, and operating web infrastructure in a large-scale distributed computing environment
  • Familiarity with configuration management (Chef, Puppet, etc.)
  • Proven experience working with SQL and large relational databases (Oracle) including data modeling
  • Solid knowledge of NoSQL databases
  • Experience in complex 3rd party integrations (synchronous to asynchronous design)
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Experience building and using distributed systems, distributed caching, distributed key-value stores
  • Great debugging skills
  • Triage production performance issues
  • Excellent DevOps scripting/programming skills in Python, Bash, Perl, or Ruby

  • Fastidious attention to detail
  • Experience with high-volume, highly scalable deployment infrastructures which operate 24x7
  • You have excellent judgment and integrity with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.

Description: You will work on features that touch all Apple Media Products Commerce services— from account management, App, music, and video purchase/download/entitlement, subscription management, and a lot of new features coming to the Apple product ecosystem. You will perform analysis, derive strategies, and write code to ensure that iTunes Store financial transactions maintain key characteristics: ACID integrity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and security. You will find opportunities for software reuse across problem domains, design and code components/libraries/frameworks to support that reuse, and refactor code to achieve higher levels of leverage in the codebase. Using 3rd party and hand-rolled solutions, you will build infrastructure for caching, messaging, and workflow management, that will be used by other teams in the Commerce group.

Communication is your strong suit: in code, in email, and face-to-face. You love finding and sharing best practices and driving higher discipline across organizations. Your deep knowledge of the stack helps to triage stability and performance issues in production and help improve system reliability through configuration and code design best practices. You will be challenged to solve hardest software performance issues: Work with software developers closely to improve code base performance (e.g. algorithm redesign), reduce resource consumption and shorten request latency.

Education: A BS/MS/PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
