Job Title: Finance Assistant (Temp to Perm)

Location: Changes UK, Recovery Central, 9 Allcock Street, Birmingham

Salary: £17-18.5k per annum (pro-rata) depending upon experience

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm with 30 minutes lunch)

The post holder works within the Finance Department; providing key operational support in the financial management of the organisation with responsibility for assisting the Finance Manager in managing financial systems, processes and procedures. The post holder is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial schedules and records for the Finance Manager.


The post holder will have key input to multiple financial procedures including:

  • Processing of all accounting transactions into the accounting system (XERO)
  • Processing supplier invoices & payments
  • Maintaining purchase order system
  • Raising sales invoices
  • Monitoring Housing Benefit income
  • First stage credit control via email
  • Cashbook versus bank reconciliation
  • Matching online order paperwork to valid VAT receipts
  • Processing expenses claims
  • Preparation of input schedules for VAT returns
  • Processing petty cash claims and floats
  • Financial record keeping to auditable standards
  • Ensure best prices achieved for regular and ad-hoc purchases

Other duties

  • Administer bookings for room hire
  • Attend such meetings as may be required
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement
  • Undertake other duties as requested by your line manager that contribute to Changes strategy and financial performance.

Contact with others

The post holder provides a crucial internal service and the role involves regular contact with staff at all levels, service users, funding organisations, external customers and suppliers.

This post regularly involves dealing with confidential staff, service user and company information. Discretion and confidentiality are therefore critical.

Special Conditions of Service

Holiday entitlement: 24 days holiday plus 8 statutory Bank Holidays per year (pro-rata).

Person Specification




Strong skills and current experience of Xero accounting software


Ambitious, articulate, conscientious and professional attitude
